Set deep in the West Australian outback, Under This Sun has been the stand-out show at The Blue Room Theatre so far this year, receiving glowing praise from audiences and critics alike. The quality of the writing and realisation of the team’s creative vision mark this emerging company and young Writer/Director Warwick Doddrell as talents to watch. Come on the journey in 2016/2017.
Within the red desert sits a lonely yellow umbrella. It offers no shelter.
Cooper wakes to find himself abandoned in the bush. Grace retraces her brother’s letters into the desert. Jeremy follows in the footsteps of Jack Kerouac and travels to the heart of Australia in search of enlightenment.
Three twenty-somethings renounce modern life and escape to the outback in a bid to find themselves. They’re confronted by the reality they find waiting for them, and their romantic notions of adventure are annihilated beneath the harsh Australian sun.
Combining physical theatre, storytelling and featuring the original poetry and prose of Henry Lawson and Banjo Paterson accompanied by a beautiful original indie folk soundtrack, Under This Sun is a visceral new work by exciting young theatre-makers.
